Our Kaupapa

Te Reo

We stand beside you, not above you, in every choice you make for the wellbeing of you and your whānau.

Te Roopu Tautoko ki te Tonga is a community-based health and social service provider serving individuals and whānau across the Otago region. We are committed to improving wellbeing through a kaupapa Māori, people-centred approach that recognises the whole person.

Our kaupapa is guided by three core values:

  • Mana Atua — spiritual wellbeing and connection.

  • Mana Tangata — respect for the dignity, strength, and potential of people.

  • Mana Whenua — connection to land, place, and the resources that sustain us.

These values shape how we deliver our services and how we engage with the communities we support. We take a holistic approach to wellbeing, recognising that physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health are deeply connected.

Where appropriate, we incorporate tikanga Māori and work alongside Kuia, Koroua, and spiritual healers to support healing, balance, and reconnection. These practices can play an important role in strengthening wairua and supporting overall wellbeing.

At the heart of our work is a commitment to empowerment. We aim to encourage and support individuals and their whānau to take positive control of their lives, build resilience, and move forward with confidence.

Our Logo Tells a Story:

Kia Pae Tāwhiti Te Whakaaro

Seeking out distant horizons begins with a single thought.

The circular base represents both the starting point of a journey toward wellbeing and a never-ending pursuit of knowledge. It also symbolises being surrounded by awhi and tautoko — care, support, and connection.

The waves represent the whānau who come to us, while the taurapa of the waka symbolises the journey they undertake alongside our kaimahi. Together, this journey supports whānau to grow, enrich themselves, and deepen their understanding of Ko wai au.

The curve through the centre reflects both the path already travelled and the future aspirations of whānau, expressed through the poutama — a symbol of progression and growth.

Throughout this journey, each whānau discovers the missing pieces of their own puzzle, learning how to live in a world grounded in truth, honesty, and sincerity.
